Three doctors performed a dramatic on-road emergency procedure after a crash near Udayamperoor in Ernakulam. On the night of the incident, Dr. Manoop B., a cardiothoracic surgeon from Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital, along with Dr. Thomas Peter and Dr. Dideeya Thomas of Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital in Kadavanthra, Kochi, responded when Linu and two other injured were pulled from the wreck. They acted on the road using improvised tools, including a razor blade and straws, to attempt a life-saving intervention for Linu, who had severe maxillofacial injuries and was gasping for breath. The two other injured were conscious enough to respond and were moved for further care.
Despite the dramatic on-road intervention, Linu was later admitted to a private hospital in Kochi in a critical condition, but there was no significant improvement in his health. The hospital confirmed that he had died on Tuesday. The body is expected to be handed over to relatives after a post-mortem at the Ernakulam General Hospital on Wednesday.
Relatives requested that details of the case be kept private. The incident drew widespread attention and praise for the doctors’ swift and decisive actions, underscoring both the life-saving potential of roadside medical improvisation and the challenges that accompany such on-the-spot interventions.
