Mahindra CEO Reveals Bold EV Expansion Plans at Davos
Mahindra Group CEO Anish Shah delivered a confident message at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He confirmed that electric vehicles will reach a turning point in India within two years. He emphasized that charging infrastructure on highways is the missing piece. “EV charging infrastructure is required on the highways and this is where a lot of effort is going on,” Shah said.
Shah explained that home and office charging already meets most city needs. He believes the real acceleration will come once highway charging is in place. “We feel that the pickup for EVs will be good but the inflection point will come after charging infrastructure is set up in the next two years,” he added.
Mahindra is also preparing for global expansion. The company is targeting markets like Australia, South Africa, and Chile before moving into Southeast Asia and Europe. Shah stressed that the US market requires deeper local understanding before entry.
The CEO highlighted resilience in supply chains. He acknowledged risks tied to rare earth dependence on China. He said availability matters more than cost. Mahindra is adopting a “just in case” approach to ensure flexibility.

Shah also confirmed plans to list Mahindra’s electric three-wheeler business in 2027. “We will use the funds from the electric three-wheeler business listing for growth,” he stated.
Mahindra’s confident strategy blends domestic leadership with global ambition. The company is investing heavily in capacity, innovation, and resilience. Shah’s message was clear. Mahindra is ready to lead the EV revolution.
