Seven people killed, many injured, after a car was crushed between two container trucks amid a massive blaze on Navale Bridge along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway near Pune.
A heavy container truck lost control on the Navale Bridge, allegedly due to brake failure, and struck several vehicles on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway near Pune. The crash left a car wedged between two large containers as a large fire erupted, engulfing all three vehicles.
Seven people were killed and more than a dozen were injured in the blaze. Officials say two of the deceased were from a truck while five others were from the car. Eight fire tenders and support vehicles rushed to the scene, and firefighters worked to douse the flames and retrieve victims from the wreckage.
Traffic on the Bengaluru-Mumbai carriageway was halted as teams cleared the gutted vehicles and assessed the damage on Navale Bridge, a corridor frequently cited as accident-prone. Authorities also indicated that the car’s CNG kit may have exploded following the collision, which could have intensified the fire.
Police and rescue teams are continuing to probe the sequence of events and identify the exact cause of the crash, while the injured are being treated at nearby hospitals. The scene has drawn condolences from officials and residents alike, highlighting the ongoing concerns about highway safety and vehicle maintenance on this corridor.
