CNG Prices Hike Again! Check Latest LPG and Fuel Rates for May 31

If you are planning to hit the road today, you might want to check your wallet first. Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices have seen another jump, specifically impacting commuters in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Mahanagar Gas Limited announced a hike of ₹2 per kg, pushing the retail price to ₹86 per kg in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. This is the second time prices have climbed in less than a month, following a similar increase just a few weeks ago.

Mumbai isn't alone in this price surge. Delhi residents are also feeling the pinch as CNG prices there rose by ₹2 to reach ₹83.09 per kg. While transport fuels are getting more expensive, there is a bit of breathing room for kitchens. Domestic LPG and PNG rates have remained stable as of May 31. In Delhi, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder continues to retail at ₹913, while Mumbai residents are paying approximately ₹912.50 per cylinder.

The underlying cause for these fluctuating rates remains the ongoing geopolitical tension in West Asia. India is heavily reliant on this region, sourcing over 40 percent of its crude oil and a massive 90 percent of its LPG imports from countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Even though there are no reports of actual fuel shortages at the moment, the government is keeping a very close watch on supplies to prevent any dry-outs at distributorships.

Petrol and diesel prices have also stayed put today after a series of four hikes earlier this month. For those eligible under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the government continues to offer subsidies to help manage these rising costs. Currently, over 10 crore low-income families are benefiting from these gas connections, which offers some relief amidst the global energy supply woes.
