A chilling plot to unleash a drone and sniper attack on a UFC event held at the White House has been thwarted, with eight men now facing serious federal charges including murder and terrorism conspiracy. Authorities revealed Thursday that the group allegedly planned to target the "UFC Freedom 250" cage-fighting show, which saw former President Donald Trump in attendance, aiming to sow chaos and "destabilize the government".
The indictment, returned in Ohio, details two separate conspiracies: one to provide material support to terrorists and another to commit murder on federal government territory and against a federal government official. Investigators say the plot began as early as May, when the group started accumulating a cache of weapons and equipment, including firearms, ammunition, body armor, explosives, drones, and communication gear.
Law enforcement officials reportedly caught wind of the potential threat on June 10, just four days before the high-profile mixed martial arts event. According to a federal affidavit, one defendant revealed plans to deploy explosive-laden drones into the event area, followed by a ground assault to shoot panicked attendees as they attempted to flee.
The Justice Department previously announced federal charges against seven individuals from various states including Ohio, Missouri, Washington, Nebraska, and California. This week, the eighth defendant, identified as Chandler D Scaggs, 21, of Chapmanville, West Virginia, was also charged. Among the early arrests was Tycen C Proper, 19, of Danville, Ohio, apprehended along with others in Missouri, Nebraska, and California around the time of the UFC event.
Officials indicated that the group members were driven by "fringe conspiracy theories," believing their actions would lead to significant government instability. The successful intervention by law enforcement highlights ongoing efforts to protect public safety and national security against extremist threats.
