A tragic incident unfolded in South West Delhi's Satya Niketan on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when a five-storey building near Shiv Mandir collapsed around 1:33 p.m. The disaster has left an unknown number of people trapped under the debris, sparking a massive, ongoing rescue operation. So far, three individuals have been pulled from the rubble, all reported to be in critical condition.
They have been rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre for urgent medical attention. Authorities are working tirelessly to determine the exact number of people still trapped, as rescue teams face the daunting task of sifting through the collapsed structure.
The ill-fated building was reportedly operating as a hostel, primarily housing students from the nearby Delhi University South Campus.
Local residents estimate that at least 30 students might have been residing in the building at the time of the collapse. Fortunately, a few workers who were present in the basement reportedly left for lunch just before the structure gave way, narrowly escaping the catastrophe.
