CEC Protest Heats Up: Saurav Das Alerts Delhi Police for Oct 10 Jantar Mantar Rally

Tensions are rising in the national capital as protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar continue to intensify. Saurav Das of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) has informed Delhi Police about a significant demonstration planned for October 10 at Jantar Mantar.
Das asserted that even if Gyanesh Kumar resigns, the protesters will not back down and will remain firm on their broader demand for comprehensive reforms within the Election Commission of India (ECI).
This development follows a major crackdown on October 6, when Delhi Police detained approximately 260 INDIA bloc protesters, including 10 Members of Parliament, during a demonstration in Delhi. The opposition parties were protesting over what has been described as the "SIR controversy" and advocating for CEC Gyanesh Kumar's immediate resignation.
The widespread nature of these protests indicates a growing discontent across India regarding the functioning of the ECI.
Authorities are not taking the situation lightly, with security measures being significantly tightened across parts of Delhi in anticipation of the upcoming protest. The ongoing standoff highlights a critical period for electoral transparency and accountability in the country, as civil society and political opposition press their demands for significant changes.
