Odisha hikes ST/SC quotas, adds 11.25% SEBC in medical and tech
Odisha approves 11.25% SEBC quota and raises ST/SC reservations in medical and technical courses across state institutions, aligning admissions with new policy.
The Odisha cabinet has approved an 11.25% SEBC quota for socially and educationally backward classes in medical and technical courses across state institutions, while also increasing reservations for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste students. The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will apply to state universities and their affiliated institutions offering professional programs. Under the new framework, ST reservation will rise to 22.50% from 12%, and SC reservation will increase to 16.25% from 8% in medical, engineering and other technical education streams. The newly introduced 11.25% SEBC quota will be implemented in technical and medical education sectors across the state, bringing Odisha’s policy in line with broader national practices.
