RSS Worker Shot Dead in Ferozepur, Punjab Triggers Political Clash

Ferozepur: A 32-year-old Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, Naveen Arora, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the city’s main bazar area as he returned home from his dupatta shop around 7 pm on Saturday. Two assailants on a motorcycle approached him and opened fire, hitting him in the head and sending him crashing to the road. He was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. His family said Naveen had stepped out of the shop just minutes earlier and was friendly and active in his community. He lived at Sadhu Chand Chowk; his grandfather, the late Dina Nath, had also been a senior RSS leader in Ferozepur.

Police say they have detained four suspects in connection with the case and have formed nine teams to trace and arrest the culprits. Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage from the area and are pursuing leads, but they have not yet established a motive behind the murder. Naveen was cremated on Sunday, with his family and local supporters paying their respects and calling for swift justice.

The sensational killing in a busy market has sparked a political row. Opposition parties have criticized the state government over what they call deteriorating law and order in Punjab, with some leaders describing the incident as evidence of a broader breakdown in security. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar condemned the killing and accused the government of failing to maintain safety and order, amplifying the ongoing debate over law and governance in the state.

As investigators continue their work and the city mourns, residents and political observers alike are watching closely to see whether the case leads to a broader national debate about security and the political climate in Punjab.
