India's Trade Push: Goyal Eyes EU Deal by Dec, US Pact Hinges on Tariffs!
Union Minister Piyush Goyal leads India's ambitious trade talks with the EU and US. An EU deal is expected by December, while the US pact awaits tariff competitiveness. A major boost for India's global economic footprint
India is actively shaping its global economic future, with significant trade agreements on the horizon with both the European Union and the United States. Union Minister Piyush Goyal is at the forefront of these negotiations, emphasizing strategic advantages for the nation.
The India-EU Free Trade Agreement is reportedly nearing a breakthrough, with expectations of finalization by December. Officials anticipate the agreement could be rolled out by February-March 2027. This pact holds immense economic weight, as India and the EU together represent a substantial 25 percent of the global GDP, signaling a powerful economic partnership in the making.
Meanwhile, discussions for an India-US trade deal have also made considerable progress. A framework for the agreement has been established, but its full implementation hinges on a crucial point: India securing a competitive tariff advantage. Minister Goyal has clearly stated that for the deal to move forward, India's duties must be lower than those of competing nations. This focus on tariff competitiveness is currently the primary sticking point.
Despite the challenges, there's optimism from the US side. US Ambassador Sergio Gor has expressed confidence that the trade agreement is nearing completion, indicating ongoing efforts to bridge the remaining gaps. These parallel negotiations highlight India's proactive approach to enhancing its international trade footprint and securing favorable terms for its economy.
