Elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will be held on January 15, with counting on January 16, according to the State Election Commission. The 29 civic bodies together offer 2,869 seats and 3.48 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in these major urban centers of the state.
Nomination papers will be accepted from December 23 to December 30. Scrutiny is on December 31, with January 2 the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Symbol allocation and the final list of candidates will be published on January 3.
Polling on January 15 will cover Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, among others, with counting the next day.
The Mumbai civic polls are seen as high-stakes for the Shiv Sena (UBT) following the 2022 split, and the results are expected to influence local governance trajectories across the state’s urban centers.
As voting approaches, analysts say turnout and party performances in these 29 bodies will be watched closely across Maharashtra, as voters weigh development, services and local leadership in crowded urban blocks.
