MacBooks & iPads Get Hefty Price Hike: Up to ₹70k More in India!
Apple increases MacBook and iPad prices in India by up to ₹70,000! Soaring AI-driven component costs are shaking up the entire PC industry. Find out what this means for consumers!
Apple has announced significant price increases for its popular MacBook and iPad lines in India, with some models now costing up to ₹70,000 more. This move, which impacts models like the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, as well as several MacBook Air and iPad variants, is being attributed to an "unprecedented surge in component costs."
The tech giant stated that it has "never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly" and, after shielding customers for some time, has reached a point where price adjustments are necessary. This isn't just an Apple-specific issue; industry experts suggest it's an early indicator of broader price hikes across the entire personal computer industry.
The primary driver behind these soaring component costs is the global artificial intelligence boom. The escalating demand for AI infrastructure is consuming vast volumes of memory and storage components, leading to supply constraints and price inflation for PC makers worldwide. Prabhu Ram, Vice-President of the Industry Research Group at CyberMedia Research (CMR), highlighted that "Demand from AI servers is soaking up DRAM and advanced memory capacity, leaving PC and device makers to compete for supply." He warned that Apple's situation is unlikely to be an isolated case, and if memory prices remain high, other brands will likely pass on costs to consumers.
Asus, another major PC manufacturer, confirmed that the issue is industry-wide. They noted that "The current pricing environment reflects broader supply-demand imbalances rather than brand-specific decisions," explaining that memory and storage are foundational components across all notebooks and PCs, thus impacting devices with higher RAM and SSD capacities most directly. Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, further emphasized that AI-driven demand has fundamentally altered the memory market landscape.
Consumers in India looking to purchase Apple's latest MacBooks or iPads should be prepared for these new, higher price tags, and potentially, similar increases from other brands in the near future as the AI revolution continues to reshape the tech supply chain.
