In Bengaluru's Langford Town, 57-year-old CJ Roy, chairman and founder of Confident Group, was found with a bullet injury at his residence on Friday as Income Tax Department officials carried out searches at several locations tied to the real estate conglomerate. Roy was rushed to a private hospital, then moved to Narayana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have not ruled out any possibility, including suicide or foul play, and said the circumstances of the death are under investigation.
The Income Tax Department had launched coordinated searches at multiple locations connected to the Confident Group, a prominent player in Bengaluru and several southern states. Roy’s death comes as his family and business associates navigate a tense period marked by the tax investigations. His wife, son, and daughter—who are based in Dubai—were expected to reach Bengaluru on Saturday. Reports indicate Roy had sought time to talk to his mother before the shooting, according to some sources.
