President Donald Trump recently unveiled what he proudly called America's “most luxurious plane,” a $400 million jet gifted by Qatar, set to serve as the new Air Force One. Speaking from Joint Base Andrews, the president couldn't hide his excitement, particularly about the jet's custom red, white, and blue paint scheme, a personal touch he emphasized was “my taste.” This vibrant new look marks a significant departure from the classic light blue seen on the recently retired Air Force One.
Trump hailed the aircraft as unparalleled, stating, “There will never be one like this. This is very unique. This is considered the world's most luxurious plane.” He claimed the plane was built to a level “that will probably never be seen again,” and described its transformation into a “flying White House” with unprecedented luxury.
However, the acquisition of this opulent jet has not been without controversy. Lawmakers and critics have raised concerns over potential security risks and alleged conflicts of interest, especially given the claim from some reports that Trump intends to keep the plane after his term, a point that has fueled public outrage. The jet, announced last May as a donation from the Qatari government, is intended to replace the Boeing 747-200B jumbo jets that have served presidents for three decades. While the Air Force has completed modifications and testing, the jet is not yet ready to transport the president, with “commissioning flights” still underway. Trump also revealed plans for the plane to participate in a flyover celebrating America's 250th birthday.
