AIADMK Urges ECI to Guard Counting Centres Ahead of Tamil Nadu Vote Count
AIADMK asks the EC to tighten entry rules at counting centres as Tamil Nadu readies for vote tally, amid allegations of press passes being misused.
Ahead of the scheduled counting of votes polled in the Assembly election held on April 23, AIADMK on Sunday petitioned election officials to prevent unauthorized entry into counting centres. There are 62 counting centres set up across Tamil Nadu, and the party’s representation to the Chief Election Commissioner, the Chief Electoral Officer and the Special Observer flags alleged misuse of press passes to gain entry into counting centres. The move aims to safeguard the tally process from disruptions and maintain transparency as the state moves toward a crucial phase of the electoral cycle.
DMK has responded by writing to the ECI to ensure peaceful counting of votes, urging deployment of adequate security personnel and close coordination with law enforcement agencies. The party’s note underscores the need for orderly procedures and a calm environment around the counting operations across the state.
Separately, AIADMK released a claim asserting that media IDs were being misused by members of the DMK IT wing at counting centres. While these allegations add a layer of tension to the countdown, officials have not publicly adjudicated the claims. The coming days are expected to test the balance between rigorous security and the smooth execution of the vote tally, with both major parties emphasizing integrity and security at counting venues across Tamil Nadu.
