Wicked Turns 20! Royal Mint Unveils Magical Commemorative Coins 🎭✨

The enchanting world of Oz is coming to life in a new way as The Royal Mint launches special commemorative 50p coins to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the musical Wicked in London's West End. It's been two decades since Wicked first graced the stage of the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006, captivating nearly 14 million people over 7,500 performances. Now, fans can own a piece of that magic with these stunning new collectable coins.

The reverse side of the coin features an array of iconic imagery from the show, including Elphaba's distinctive hat and broomstick, Glinda's sparkling wand and shoes, the mysterious Grimmerie spellbook, a mischievous flying monkey, and even the Wizard of Oz in his hot air balloon. The designs brilliantly incorporate the musical's signature green and pink colour palette, making them instantly recognizable.

These special coins are available in various editions, with prices starting from £19.50.

Some designs even feature vibrant colour, adding an extra layer of enchantment.

A gold edition has also been struck using recycled gold, a nod to The Royal Mint's goal to extend this sustainable practice to all its collectable gold coins by the end of 2026.

Each coin comes in packaging inspired by the London stage production, perfect for collectors and fans. Tim Mulhall, head of fandom at The Royal Mint, expressed the deep connection fans have with Wicked. The coins go on sale at 9 am on September 17th and can be purchased directly from The Royal Mint's website.
