Violence escalates in the occupied West Bank as a 17-year-old Palestinian is killed following a rock-throwing incident involving Israeli settlers. Read for the latest developments.
Tragic news from the occupied West Bank as a 17-year-old Palestinian, Karim Sanad Raja Shalaldeh, was killed by Israeli settlers on Friday following a rock-throwing incident in Sa’ir, north of Hebron. Another man was also reported wounded in the clash, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The teenager's father, speaking from the hospital, confirmed his son's death at the hands of Israeli settlers. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, adding to an already tense situation.
The Israeli military offered a different account, stating that soldiers were dispatched to Sa’ir after Palestinians threw rocks at Israeli civilians who were in the area without prior authorization. They reported that some Israelis were injured and a security official opened fire during the confrontation.
In a separate incident on the same day, 58-year-old Fathi Khazem was fatally shot by Israeli forces in Jenin. An Israeli army official, speaking anonymously, claimed Khazem attempted to stab an Israeli soldier during an overnight operation. No Israeli soldiers were reported injured. Khazem was identified as the father of Raed Khazem, who carried out a shooting attack in Tel Aviv in April 2022.
This tragic day underscores the escalating violence in the West Bank. Palestinian officials report that at least 87 Palestinians have been killed this year in almost 1,500 attacks involving Israeli settlers and soldiers, highlighting the deepening crisis in the region.
