This crucial notification was issued in the Federal Register on June 17 by the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the body overseeing the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
The move underscores the growing defense partnership between the two nations. U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor highlighted the importance of this collaboration in a post on X, stating, "The United States and India continue to work together daily! Our defence partnership is GROWING. Just today, we announced a $230 million sale for a sustainment package for India’s M777A2 ultra-light howitzers is ready to be concluded." He further emphasized that this proposed sale supports U.S. national security objectives while ensuring India maintains vital capabilities for its own national defense.
This support package is particularly vital for India, which inducted the M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers to significantly enhance its artillery capabilities, especially in challenging mountainous terrain. The Indian Army also operates the highly advanced AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, renowned globally for their precision strike and battlefield support missions.
The notification details that India had requested long-term sustainment support for its M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers, with an estimated cost of $230 million for this specific component. The comprehensive package includes ancillary items, spares, repair and return services, training, technical assistance, field service representatives, depot capability, and various other related elements of logistics and program support. A separate notification addresses the sustainment support services for the AH-64E Apache helicopters. This continuous support ensures the operational readiness and longevity of these critical military assets, reinforcing India's defense prowess and deepening the strategic alliance with the United States.
