Aamir Khan, often hailed as Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist, recently opened up about a surprising chapter from his early career. He said there were two projects he accepted without ever reading the script, decisions driven more by heart and instinct than by a traditional audition or storyline discussion. He explained that his exit from meticulous planning at those moments came from a familial push and a faith in following what felt emotionally true. When he hears a story and feels a spark, that’s what guides him, whether he’s acting or producing.
The first film he signed without the script was Awwal Number. His father, filmmaker Tahir Hussain, called him with Dev Anand wanting to meet him for the project. Aamir recalls resisting at first, insisting he would hear the story first, but his father was insistent: you’ll just go and say yes. Feeling scared of his father’s authority and influence, he ultimately agreed, not knowing the tale he was stepping into.
The second instance happened with Tum Mere Ho, a project produced by his father. Aamir tried to press for the plot details, but the conversation ended with a seasoned, three-hour lecture from his father. After that, he chose to put trust in the process and said, “okay, you make the film.” This moment underscored a recurring theme in his career: when the heart is engaged, the process becomes secondary to the emotional resonance of the story.
