Hyundai Unveils Hydrogen Technologies Across Value Chain at World Hydrogen Expo
Hyundai Motor Group showcases hydrogen innovations from production to refueling at Korea's World Hydrogen Expo in Seoul, unveiling 10 new technologies.
Hyundai Motor Group, together with seven affiliates, is spotlighting hydrogen technologies and real-world applications at Korea’s premier hydrogen event, the World Hydrogen Expo, in Seoul. The expo brings together more than 250 companies from over 25 countries to showcase innovations across the hydrogen value chain—from production and storage to mobility and utilization. Officials expect about 40,000 attendees, underscoring growing interest in hydrogen as a cornerstone of a clean-energy future. Among the highlights are 10 newly unveiled technologies, including a hydrogen burner, a packaged hydrogen refueling system, and an automated hydrogen refueling robot, among others. The Group frames these solutions as proof that hydrogen can store renewable energy and enhance the flexibility and resilience of energy systems.
Jaehoon Chang, Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, notes that the rapid rise in power demand driven by AI and the expansion of renewables make hydrogen storage and dispatch essential. "Hydrogen offers the most powerful solution to store and utilize renewable energy, complementing intermittency and easing grid pressures," Chang says. "By converting surplus electricity into hydrogen, we can make energy systems more flexible and accelerate the energy transition."
Hyundai Motor Group’s participation spans Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation, Hyundai Steel, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering Co., Hyundai Glovis, and other affiliates, reflecting a broad push across mobility, materials, and logistics. The World Hydrogen Expo—held for the first time after merging the H2MEET exhibition and conference—also highlights a global partnership and collaboration with industry leaders to accelerate the hydrogen ecosystem.
Signaling its broader ecosystem ambitions, Hyundai also announced collaboration with Air Liquide to accelerate the global hydrogen ecosystem, combining strengths in production, logistics, and supply infrastructure. Under the theme "Hydrogen Pioneers: Innovate, Unite, Accelerate," the event positions Korea as a growing hydrogen hub while governments back the push with policy support. Hydrogen is described as not just a mobility solution but "New Energy for Society"—a pathway to decarbonize industries and power grids.
