Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently used his monthly "Mann Ki Baat" radio broadcast on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to highlight India's significant strides towards self-reliance. He celebrated crucial milestones achieved by the nation, particularly in the aviation and defense sectors, underscoring the spirit of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
A major point of pride mentioned by the Prime Minister was the successful maiden flight of the made-in-India C-295 transport aircraft, which took to the skies on June 10. This achievement is part of a larger plan where 40 such aircraft are set to be built right here in India. This ambitious project is not only bolstering the aerospace sector but also empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and creating new employment opportunities across the country.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to procure a total of 56 C-295 transport aircraft, an investment valued at approximately ₹21,935 crore. A significant portion of these, specifically 40 aircraft, will be assembled by Tata Advanced Systems Limited in collaboration with Airbus at a state-of-the-art production facility located in Vadodara. This initiative truly exemplifies India's growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing and defense production.
Beyond aviation, PM Modi also lauded the successful test of an indigenous Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile, showcasing India's advancements in missile technology. He emphasized that these achievements, realized in June alone, are filling every citizen with immense pride and are a testament to the nation's commitment to becoming a global leader in innovation and defense.
