Lovlina, Nikhat Lead India at Asian Boxing Championships

India has named a 20-member boxing squad to challenge at the Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia, scheduled from March 28 to April 11. The campaign will be closely watched for spots at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games later this year, with the BFI policy stating that finalists in approved weight categories at this meet will earn direct entries to those multi-sport events. The team’s selection comes after a month-long evaluation that weighed performances at the National Championships in January and ongoing national camp in Patiala.

In the women’s category, Lovlina Borgohain will compete in 75kg, with Preeti Pawar (54kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) and Priya (60kg) also earning inclusion. All four recently won medals at the Boxam Elite International in Spain, underscoring India’s depth in the women’s ranks. The squad also features Minakshi Hooda (48kg), Nikhat Zareen (51kg), Jaismine Lamboriya (57kg), Ankushita Boro (65kg), Pooja Rani (80kg) and Alfiya Pathan (80+kg).

On the men’s side, Sachin Siwach (60kg) — a World Boxing Cup Final and Boxam Championship gold medallist — is among the leaders of the contingent. He will be joined by Vishwanath Suresh (50kg), Jadumani Singh (55kg), Aditya Pratap Yadav (65kg), Deepak (70kg), Akash (75kg), Ankush (80kg), Lokesh (85kg), Harsh Choudhary (90kg) and Narender (90+kg). The selection also highlights the presence of a strong coaching setup, with newly-appointed women’s chief coach Santiago Nieva and veteran men’s coach CA Kuttappa guiding the boxers as they prepare for a pivotal year in which multi-sport qualification hinges on results at these continental championships.
