India's Q2 FY26 GDP up 8.2%, Modi vows easier living ahead
India posts 8.2% GDP growth in Q2 FY26, driven by manufacturing and services, as PM Modi pledges further reforms to raise ease of living.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed India's 8.2% GDP growth in the second quarter of 2025–26, calling it a strong sign of the country's economic trajectory and the impact of ongoing structural reforms. As per MOSPI data, India's GDP grew 8.2% in Q2FY26, a notable rise from 5.6% in the same period last year. Nominal GDP rose 8.7% in the quarter.
Growth was broad-based, with the secondary sector (manufacturing, electricity, gas, water supply and other utility services and construction) expanding 8.1% and the tertiary sector (trade, hotels, transportation, communication, and services related to broadcasting, financial, real estate and professional services and public administration, defence and other services) increasing 9.2% at constant prices. Manufacturing, electricity and construction drove the industrial recovery, while services posted strong gains across the board.
Modi highlighted that the numbers reflect the effectiveness of pro-growth policies and the hard work and enterprise of India's people. He asserted that the government will continue to advance reforms and strengthen Ease of Living for every citizen. In his post, the prime minister reiterated commitment to sustaining growth momentum through policy action and citizen-focused initiatives.
Even amid global headwinds, the data suggest resilience in India’s economy, with breadth across manufacturing and services suggesting momentum that policymakers hope will translate into higher investment and job creation in the quarters ahead.
