Three Jaish Hideouts Busted in Kathua, Two M4 Cartridges Recovered
Security forces busted three Jaish hideouts in Kathua, recovering two empty M4 cartridges and a cache of everyday items as the anti-terror operation continues.
Three terrorist hideouts were busted in Kathua district, in the Kalikhad and Kalaban areas of Billawar, as security forces pressed an anti-terror operation in a forest zone on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Joint teams busted two hideouts in Kalikhad and Kalaban, part of a broader search in Kamaad Nallah, Dhanu Parole and Billawar. Recovered from the sites were two M4 empty cartridges, a plastic box containing desi ghee, a polythene packet with almonds, hand gloves, a cap, a blanket, a tarpaulin sheet, a small pouch and a polythene bag, among other items like a cooking gas cylinder, cooking oil, charger wire, utensils and torch.
During the operation, unknown terrorists opened fire on the security teams, resulting in an exchange that continued through the night. The operation is ongoing and security forces are continuing to comb the area to neutralise threats and maintain peace in Kathua district.
Authorities say the search effort will persist until the area is secured and all potential hideouts are thoroughly checked. The district remains vigilant as security remains a priority in the wake of anti-national activity.
