Higgins leads 13-11 over Murphy at the Crucible as the World Championship semi-final heads into a dramatic final session.
John Higgins opened up a slender 13-11 lead heading into the final session of their World Championship semi-final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The 51-year-old, a four-time champion who could reach a record-equalling ninth final in Sheffield, had not led at the end of a session so far in the tournament but took control at the end of play with his first century of the contest.
Murphy, who briefly led after resuming with a 60 break, saw Higgins respond with runs of 44 and 55 and then win the frame after snookering on the brown. A brilliant 82 from Murphy levelled again at the mid-session interval, and the pair traded the next two frames in a thriller. Higgins then compiled a 63, and Murphy answered with a century from his break-off shot, leaving Higgins 13-11 ahead when play ended for the day. The final session will begin on Saturday at 14:30 BST, with the winner advancing to face Wu Yize or Mark Allen in the final.
