Building Collapse in Delhi's Saket: Several Feared Trapped Under Rubble

A chaotic scene unfolded in South Delhi on Saturday evening as a multi-storey building collapsed near the Saket Metro station. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the Saidulajab area on Western Marg, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the site, where a massive rescue operation is currently underway to reach those buried under the debris.

The building, which featured a ground floor plus three upper levels, was reportedly undergoing construction on the top floor. According to witnesses, the collapse was preceded by a loud noise that many initially mistook for a generator blast. Within seconds, the structure was reduced to a mound of concrete and dust, creating a panic-stricken atmosphere for local residents and passersby.

Rescue teams have already managed to pull eight people from the debris, with three of those rescues performed by brave locals before official teams arrived. However, there are deep concerns for those still missing. The building unfortunately fell onto an adjacent tin shed canteen. Reports indicate that several children were having dinner in the canteen at the time of the collapse and are feared to be among those trapped. Additionally, a coaching institute was operating on the ground floor, raising further alarms about the number of students who might be caught under the rubble.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has confirmed that every possible resource is being utilized for the rescue efforts. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and local police are working alongside the District Disaster Management Authority and Civil Defence to clear the debris and locate survivors. The site remains a flurry of activity as fire tenders and ambulances continue to assist in the relief efforts, and the situation is being closely monitored by high-level officials.
