Rahul Gandhi Visits Indore to Meet Water Contamination Victims

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Indore on Saturday to meet those affected by the vomiting and diarrhoea outbreak traced to a local water supply. He spoke with patients and families, asking about health and offering condolences, as security was tightened in the Bhagirathpura area.
He met four patients at Bombay Hospital, where he inquired about their condition and spoke with family members, accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari and other party leaders.
Residents have claimed that 24 people have died since the outbreak began in Bhagirathpura, though the state government has pegged the toll at seven, including a five-month-old infant. A death audit by a government medical college suggested that 15 deaths could be linked to the outbreak in some manner.
Officials have provided compensation of ₹2 lakh to 21 families who lost loved ones on humanitarian grounds, while continuing to push for accountability and better water safety measures. Gandhi's visit occurred amid protests by the opposition demanding action and the ouster of a state leader.
The visit underscored the political temperature surrounding the crisis and highlighted the human impact as authorities weigh data and response efforts.
