William Stevenson, Jill Biden's ex-husband, faces first-degree murder charges in Linda Stevenson's death in Delaware after a weeks-long investigation.
William Stevenson, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64. The indictment follows a weeks-long investigation by New Castle County Police, who announced the charges on Monday. Stevenson is being held in a Wilmington facility after failing to post a $500,000 bail.
Police responders were dispatched to the Stevensons' home on December 28, 2025, after a domestic-dispute call. They found Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Stevenson is described as a businessman who owns the Stone Balloon, a bar near the University of Delaware. The case has drawn attention partly due to his past marriage to Jill Biden, who later married Joe Biden in 1977.
Prosecutors have provided few public details about the evidence to date, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials prepare for formal court proceedings. Community members expressed shock at the allegations while Linda Stevenson’s family mourns the loss.
