Senior Finance Ministry Officer Killed in BMW Crash; Wife Battles for Life
Navjot Singh, 52, dies after his motorcycle is hit by a BMW in Delhi. Wife seriously injured. Investigation under way, with questions on hospital choice and driver’s responsibility.
A senior finance ministry official, Navjot Singh (52), has died after his motorcycle was allegedly rammed by a speeding BMW on Sunday afternoon. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, who was riding pillion, is seriously injured and hospitalized.
What Happened
The crash occurred near Metro Pillar No. 67 on Ring Road in the Dhaula Kuan-Delhi Cantt stretch. According to the FIR and victim’s account, the BMW, driven by Gaganpreet Kaur, was speeding, lost control, collided with the central divider, and hit Singh’s motorcycle from behind.
Singh died at the scene. His wife sustained multiple fractures, head injuries and was given 14 stitches.
Controversy & Investigation
Singh was not taken to the nearest hospital. Instead, he was transported about 19-20 km away to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, which is reportedly co-owned by relatives of Gaganpreet, the accused driver. The son alleges that this choice of hospital may have delayed critical treatment and could have been fatal.
FIR has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and causing disappearance of evidence.
Singh was Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Union Finance Ministry. The accused, Gaganpreet, and her husband were also injured and admitted to the same hospital.
