UN Inquiry: Israel Accused of Genocide, 'Deliberately Targeting Children' in Gaza

A new independent United Nations inquiry has found that Israel continues to commit genocide by deliberately targeting Palestinian children in Gaza. The report, conducted by the UN independent international commission of inquiry, highlights that approximately 30% of those killed by Israeli forces since the start of the war have been children.

The commission’s findings suggest that these actions are undermining the capacity of the Palestinian people to exist, a critical aspect of the definition of genocide. This new report follows a previous finding by the same commission in September, which concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza and that Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had incited these acts. Netanyahu is currently wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes.

Israel has vehemently rejected the commission’s report, dismissing it as a “libellous sham” through its mission in Geneva. Despite these accusations, Israel has continued to receive significant diplomatic support from key allies, including the United States and the United Kingdom. However, a substantial body of research from legal and human rights experts, including analyses by UN investigators, organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, and genocide scholars globally, indicates an intent to destroy Palestinians.

Genocide, recognized as the most serious international crime since the Second World War and the Holocaust, is defined by the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide as acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. The report emphasizes the dire situation for children in areas like Khan Younis, where many have been caught in the crossfire and suffered immense loss.
