Kerala Plus One Admissions: 81,770 Placed, Seat Shortage Sparks Action!
Kerala's Plus One final allotment is out, with 81,770 students securing seats. But a significant shortage of 5,922 merit seats remains, especially in Malappuram. The government plans 120 new batches to address the crisis
The final stage of the main phase allotment for Kerala's Plus One higher secondary courses has concluded, seeing 81,770 students secure fresh admissions. An additional 58,042 students also managed to get higher options. With this latest round, the total number of allotments across the three main phases now stands at 3,11,204.
Despite these significant placements, a noticeable shortage persists. Out of 3,17,126 available seats (including those for differently-abled students), 5,922 merit seats remain vacant across the state. This disparity is particularly pronounced in certain districts. Malappuram district recorded the highest number of fresh allotments with 18,987 students. However, it also faces a severe seat deficit, with only 71 seats remaining vacant after accommodating 57,669 students against a total of 57,740 seats. Similarly, Kozhikode has only 49 vacant seats, while Kannur saw 8,152 students get allotments. The total number of applicants in Malappuram alone reached 82,753.
Addressing this critical situation, the state government is actively planning to introduce 120 additional temporary batches. These batches are specifically earmarked for four districts in the Malabar region, which have been identified as having the most acute Plus One seat shortages. Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen informed the Assembly that district and taluk-level scrutiny confirmed the urgent need for more seats in these areas. This proactive measure aims to ensure that no eligible student is left without a seat for higher secondary education.
