A close associate of Mukhtar Ansari was killed in broad daylight as attackers intercepted his sedan on the Lucknow–Ayodhya highway near Barabanki, triggering a high-profile police probe.
In Barabanki on Friday afternoon, Shoaib Kidwai, alias Bobby, a history-sheeter with links to the criminal-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was shot dead when motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted his Baleno car on the Lucknow–Ayodhya highway after it descended from the highway near the Aseni turn. The attack unfolded in broad daylight, prompting a rapid police response at the scene. The Barabanki SP and senior district officers arrived to supervise the investigation as evidence collection began. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned, and the district has been placed on high alert. A Special Operation Group (SOG) team has been formed to assist in the probe, along with forensic units, as investigators search for clues about the assailants and their motive.
