Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, owners of Birch by Romeo Lane in Goa’s Arpora, were deported from Bangkok to Delhi and handed over to Goa police as part of the ongoing probe into the December 6 nightclub fire that left 25 dead. Footage from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi showed the brothers in police escort, their faces covered as they were brought for transit toward Goa.
The Luthras had fled to Phuket, Thailand, within hours of the blaze. Thai authorities detained them there last week following a request from Indian authorities, and an Interpol Blue Notice was issued in connection with the case. Back in India, a court in Delhi denied anticipatory bail, and officials sought a two-day transit remand to Goa Police, which was granted.
The deportation from Bangkok to Delhi culminates in their return to Goa to face questions about alleged safety lapses at the club that may have contributed to the blaze. The incident has sparked outrage and a broader scrutiny of safety compliance at Goa’s nightlife venues. As the investigation moves forward, police in Goa are expected to interrogate the brothers further to piece together what happened on the night of December 6.
