NIA Arrests Kashmir Man in Red Fort Blast, Labels Umar Nabi a Suicide Bomber
NIA says Amir Rashid Ali, owner of the Hyundai i20 used in the Red Fort attack, conspired with Umar Nabi to carry out the strike.
The National Investigation Agency said it has arrested Amir Rashid Ali, a Kashmir resident and the registered owner of the Hyundai i20 involved in the Red Fort blast on November 10, which killed 11 people. The agency described Umar Un Nabi, the man who drove the car, as the “suicide bomber” in its statement. Ali was arrested in Delhi after the NIA said he helped facilitate the purchase of the vehicle and conspired with Nabi to mount the attack. The car was later used as a vehicle-borne IED.
Ali, who comes from Pampore in Kashmir, had accompanied Nabi to a petrol pump in Sector 27, Faridabad, on October 29 to obtain a PUC certificate, according to investigators. The i20, registered HR26CE7674 and registered in Ali’s name, stopped at Netaji Subhash Marg near the Lal Quila metro station before the blast at 6:52 pm on November 10.
Investigators have also identified Sonu, who worked at a second-hand car dealership from where the vehicle was purchased, as part of the wider plot. The NIA said it has examined 73 witnesses and seized another vehicle as part of the probe, signaling a broader conspiracy.
The agency’s disclosure marks a major development in the Red Fort case, which has drawn national attention to the network behind the attack. Nabi, described in some reports as an assistant professor associated with a Jaish module, remains under investigation by the NIA as it builds its case against those who helped orchestrate the strike.
