Andy Sachs steps back into Runway to navigate a new scandal, as a Gaga-Doechii track heightens the drama.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer brings Andy Sachs back into the fashion spotlight, pulled into Runway's orbit to help weather a fresh scandal. The clip reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, while introducing an all-new runway of characters, including Ashely, Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as Lily and Irv from the first film.
Andy recalls how she accompanied Miranda to Paris Fashion Week and wrote a few pieces for the Chanel collection that year. But she confesses she gave all the haute couture away after quitting Runway and deep diving into hard news. “Would have been a bit much for a newsroom,” she says, much to the PA’s surprise. Miranda then reveals that Andy has been brought back to Runway in order to “help us through our current scandal.” While the details of the said scandal remain ambiguous, we see Runway stock take a free fall and unflattering memes about Miranda going viral online. It’s not Miranda who’s hiring Andy, so she admits all she needs to do is “bide my time until you fail.” Clearly, Andy isn’t a guardian angel for Miranda, as the latter even refuses to give her a lift and suggests she take the train instead. Andy isn’t ruling out a future as a writer of the definitive Miranda Priestly exposé, a bite echoed by her mantra-following colleague Emily’s line about burning bridges lighting the way. Even Nigel doesn’t spare Andy, joking that she’s “too pale” to wear terracotta.
The trailer also features a first listen at the new original song “Runway” by Lady Gaga and Doechii, set to a upbeat dance rhythm as the footage plays. The film is slated for a May 1 theatrical release, with the track’s single release keeping date to be announced. The promo hints at a fashion-forward thriller that pairs the sharp wit of its heroine with a modern newsroom angle, all wrapped in Runway’s glossy yet cutthroat world, including the return of Lily and Irv.
