Tragedy at NYC Shipyard: One Dead, Over 30 Injured After Staten Island Blast

A tragic afternoon at a New York City shipyard has left one person dead and dozens of others injured following a massive fire and subsequent explosion. The incident occurred on Staten Island on Friday, turning a routine emergency call into a chaotic scene that has shaken the local community and first responders.

The fire reportedly broke out around 3:30 p.m. at a dry dock facility where ships undergo maintenance. Firefighters arrived on the scene after receiving reports that two workers were trapped inside a confined space. As crews worked to locate the workers and battle flames in the basement of a metal structure, a powerful explosion rocked the site about an hour later.

One civilian lost their life in the blast, and another was injured. The explosion also took a heavy toll on the city's emergency services. Officials confirmed that at least 34 first responders were wounded, including 13 firefighters and two EMS personnel.
