India's New Eye in the Sky: ISRO Successfully Launches Advanced EOS-05 Satellite!

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is celebrating a significant victory with the successful launch of its state-of-the-art Earth observation spacecraft, EOS-05. This marks a proud moment for India's space program, demonstrating its growing capabilities. The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), on its 19th mission, flawlessly placed the EOS-05 into its intended Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.

The powerful rocket lifted off from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2:55 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2026. Just 18 minutes after liftoff, the satellite was precisely injected into its preliminary orbit, as announced by ISRO. EOS-05 is particularly noteworthy as it is India's first-ever imaging satellite designed to monitor from the Geosynchronous orbit, approximately 36,000 kilometers above Earth.

This advanced capability will provide crucial strategic data for the nation. ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan expressed his delight, stating,

I am very happy to announce that the GSLV-F17 vehicle has successfully and precisely injected the advanced Earth observation satellite EOS-05 in the intended and required orbit.

This was the 107th launch from the Sriharikota spaceport and a testament to the continuous improvements made to the GSLV.

He mentioned that from an initial payload capacity of 1536 kg for the GSLV-D1, the vehicle's performance has been optimized to now inject the heaviest satellite yet, a 2367 kg payload, into orbit.

The Chairman confirmed that initial checks showed the satellite's systems, including all valves, were operating perfectly, and its solar panels had successfully deployed. "The health of the satellite is perfectly alright," he assured.
