MP Rahim Files Case Over "Fake" Facebook Post Linking Party to Drug Busts
Kerala's CPI(M) MP A.A. Rahim has filed a case against a "defamatory" Facebook post falsely claiming party members were arrested in the 'Operation Toofan' drug drive. Cyber police are investigating.
A significant case has been registered by the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police following a complaint from CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP A.A. Rahim. The complaint, filed last week, targets an allegedly defamatory Facebook post that has been widely circulated.
According to police reports, the case has been booked against users of Facebook accounts identified as ‘Sreekanth Palickathode’ and ‘Riyas Thathoth’. MP Rahim claims that a fabricated social media post, featuring his photograph, falsely asserts that individuals arrested under 'Operation Toofan', the State’s comprehensive anti-narcotics drive, are members of the CPI(M)-affiliated student and youth organizations, SFI and DYFI.
The MP has alleged that this deliberately false post was spread across social media platforms with the clear intention of defaming him and potentially discrediting the political organizations. The police have registered the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the Kerala Police Act, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations.
Officials have confirmed that a detailed investigation is now underway. Their primary focus is to identify and trace the individuals operating these Facebook accounts, bringing them to justice for the alleged spread of misinformation and defamation.
