A wave of sorrow has swept across Jammu and Kashmir following a terror attack in Anantnag that claimed the life of Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the IRP 3rd Battalion, J&K Police. The brave officer, who was serving as Amarnath Yatra security personnel, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The incident, which occurred around 12:30 pm at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, marks the first terror attack in the region since the tragic Pahalgam killings in April last year, which resulted in 26 fatalities. Security forces have swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to apprehend the assailants responsible for this cowardly act.
Political leaders have strongly condemned the attack. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his deep sadness, stating, "HC Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice in a cowardly terror attack… I unequivocally condemn this attack and send my heartfelt condolences to the members of his family." He added a prayer for the fallen hero. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also voiced his condemnation, highlighting that he had spoken with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat to assess the situation. "My heartfelt condolences to the family of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi… The whole country stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the family of the martyr. I strongly condemn this cowardly attack. This heinous act will not go unpunished. J&K Police and our security forces are on the ground and will bring those responsible to justice," affirmed LG Sinha, reassuring the public that justice would be served.
