Gracie Abrams is officially celebrating a monumental career milestone as her latest album, “Daughter From Hell,” has soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, marking her first-ever Number One album. The singer-songwriter achieved this impressive feat with 124,000 equivalent album sales, a figure that aligns perfectly with earlier projections.
This success isn't entirely new territory for Abrams, who has been steadily climbing the ranks in the music industry. Her previous work, "The Secret of Us," released in 2024, made a significant splash by debuting at Number Two on the Billboard 200 with 89,000 units. That album was a major turning point, and its deluxe version even spawned her first Top 10 hit song on the Billboard Hot 100, "That’s So True."
Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Daughter From Hell,” Abrams shared insights during an exclusive show at Bowery Ballroom. She described the album as emerging from a period of quiet contemplation after touring, touching on the unique and often complex experience of being in one's 20s. "Being in your 20s is so strange and weird, it can feel lonely in a new way and it can feel like thrilling in a new way. You imagine your future differently all of a sudden and then your adolescence still feels like it’s like right behind," she explained, offering a glimpse into the album's deeply personal themes.
The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators and creatives. Produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, who also helmed her previous albums "Good Riddance" and "The Secret of Us," "Daughter From Hell" features notable writing credits. These include Justin Vernon, famously known as Bon Iver, Abrams’ long-time friend Audrey Hobert, and even her partner Paul Mescal, who co-wrote the track "Imaginary Friend." This collective effort undoubtedly contributed to the album’s rich sound and lyrical depth, resonating with fans and critics alike to secure its chart-topping position.
