Influencer Dies After Brutal Assault: Justice Demanded

Punjabi social media influencer Manjit Kaur, 28, has tragically passed away at a government hospital in Chandigarh, nearly two months after a brutal assault. Kaur, who had a significant following on Instagram, died on August 26 during treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), police confirmed.

The horrific incident unfolded on July 3 when Kaur was allegedly abducted by two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda, after they lured her near a liquor shop in Sector 34. The complaint, lodged by her mother, states that Kaur was then taken to Morinda in Punjab, where she was subjected to a brutal assault, tied to a tree, and set on fire.

A friend of Kaur's reportedly arrived at the scene, using a blanket to extinguish the flames before rushing her to a local hospital. She was subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Mohali and eventually to PGIMER, Chandigarh, for specialized care. Controversy has arisen around the police's handling of the case.

Kaur's mother alleged that despite her daughter regaining consciousness on August 5 and the Kharar police in Mohali being notified to record her statement, no officers arrived.

However, police officials have refuted these claims, asserting their full cooperation with the family throughout the investigation.

A case has been registered under sections 103 (1) (murder) and 140 (1) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Chandigarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) Gurjeet Kaur confirmed that the investigation is actively underway, with efforts focused on tracing the assailants. Authorities are meticulously examining CCTV footage and other crucial evidence to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping and to identify those responsible for this heinous crime.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear as the police continue their search for justice.
