A video clip showing Samarthgouda Patil, the son of former BJP MLA Vijugouda Patil, and his aides allegedly assaulting toll booth staff has spread quickly on social media. The incident is reported to have occurred at a toll booth near Kannoli in Sindgi taluk, along the Vijayapura-Sindhi corridor, on October 30. The toll operator reportedly asked for the toll payment, at which point Samarthgouda allegedly claimed he was the son of Vijugouda Patil. The staff reportedly replied that they did not recognize any such person, prompting an exchange in which Samarthgouda and his companions allegedly used abusive language and assaulted a toll employee.
One toll booth worker, Sangappa, is said to have sustained injuries and was treated at the Sindgi taluk hospital. Police officials said they had not yet received a formal complaint from the staff or toll booth officials regarding the incident. Authorities in Vijayapura have indicated they are looking into the matter, even as the video has drawn widespread attention online.
