IIT Delhi Student Death: Abetment to Suicide Case Filed Amidst Protests

The tragic death of Rishikesh Kumar, an MSc student at IIT Delhi, has led to a significant development in the investigation as Delhi Police have now registered a case of abetment to suicide. The incident, which occurred on August 22, saw Kumar allegedly jumping from a building on the campus. He was immediately rushed to the institute's hospital but was sadly declared brought dead.

Police received a PCR call around 8:30 AM at the Kishangarh police station, prompting a swift response from authorities.

A crime team and a forensic science laboratory unit were deployed to the scene to collect evidence.

Investigators have confirmed that no suicide note was found at the spot.

However, a mobile phone discovered in the deceased's pocket has been seized and is currently being examined for any clues. As the probe deepens, police are also seeking the student's counselling records and other relevant information from IIT Delhi.

The registration of an abetment to suicide case against unidentified persons signifies a more intensified investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rishikesh's death and to determine if any other individuals played a role. The institute had previously issued a statement expressing profound grief over the loss and assured full cooperation with the Delhi Police, along with providing support to the bereaved family.

Rishikesh's mother, in a heartbreaking statement, recalled her son saying, "Mummy, I am hurting," shedding light on the emotional distress he might have been experiencing.
