Pregnant IT pro, unborn baby killed in Sydney crash

An eight-month-pregnant Indian-origin IT analyst was killed, along with her unborn baby, after a car crash in Sydney. Samanvitha Dhareshwar, 33, was walking with her husband and their three-year-old son along George Street in Hornsby when the group paused at the entrance of a car park to cross. A Kia slowed to let them pass, but moments later a BMW behind it surged forward and struck the pedestrian.

Emergency services rushed Dhareshwar to Westmead Hospital in a critical and unstable condition, but she and her unborn baby died shortly after. The driver of the teenage BMW, Aaron Papazoglu, 19, was arrested and later charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus. Police said both other drivers were uninjured and no other passengers were in either vehicle.

Police told reporters that bail was denied at a hearing, with Magistrate Ray Plibersek calling the incident an absolutely tragic case. Dhareshwar's LinkedIn profile lists her as an IT systems analyst who worked for Alsco Uniforms.
