Stalin Extends Mother Language Day Greetings, Hails Tamil

On International Mother Language Day, February 21, 2026, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin posted on X praising Tamil language and signaling that long live Tamil. He said the joy we feel when we call our language Thamizhae (Oh! Tamil) is immeasurable. He urged Tamils worldwide to safeguard the language, pass it to future generations, and ensure its flourishing. He also launched a song drawn from a famous poem by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and congratulated the musicians who worked on it.
Stalin's message underscores a duty across the Tamil diaspora to preserve linguistic heritage amid global changes, and to keep Tamil vibrant in schools, media, and arts. The move highlights Tamil Nadu's ongoing emphasis on language as a cultural pillar and a symbol of identity.
In other reactions on the same day, leaders emphasised universal respect for all languages. Mamata Banerjee said all languages deserve equal respect and pledged to stand united against any attack on a language. Meanwhile actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan said Tamil will forever be his breath and joined in greetings to Tamils on International Mother Language Day.
