Adani Group Stocks Surge as US Drops All Bribery and Fraud Charges
Investors cheer as the US DOJ and SEC settle cases with the Adani Group. Find out how Adani Enterprises and other stocks reacted to this major legal breakthrough.
Investors are breathing a sigh of relief as the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have effectively closed their cases against the Adani Group and its promoters. This major legal development led to a notable rally in the group’s shares, with the flagship Adani Enterprises gaining as much as 3% in intraday trading.
The DOJ has permanently dropped charges of security and wire fraud following a settlement of $275 million. Meanwhile, the SEC settled its case with Gautam and Sagar Adani for a $18 million penalty. Notably, these settlements were reached without the Adanis admitting or denying the allegations, which the group has consistently maintained were meritless from the start.
On the stock market front, Adani Enterprises opened strong at ₹2,734.70 and reached a high of ₹2,774.50 before closing the day around ₹2,725. While the stock saw significant gains, some of the initial momentum was slightly tempered by broader market concerns regarding international conflicts. However, other group entities like Adani Ports, Adani Green, and Adani Total Gas also witnessed upward movement during the session, signaling renewed investor confidence.
The resolution of these US legal hurdles marks a significant turning point for the conglomerate, which has faced intense scrutiny over the past year. With the legal cloud lifting, the 'Apple to airports' giant can now focus on its expansive operations and upcoming projects without the immediate pressure of these investigations.
