AI War Intensifies: Google Debuts Gemini 3 to Challenge OpenAI
Google rolls out Gemini 3, its latest AI model, promising sharper answers to complex queries across Search, AI Mode, and enterprise tools. A limited beta starts today, with a wider rollout in coming weeks.
Google is launching Gemini 3, its newest AI model, as it competes with OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT. In one of the many blog entries Google posted on Tuesday, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the new AI model will enable users to receive better responses to increasingly complicated queries, "so you get what you need with less prompting."

Google's AI search products, AI Mode and AI Overviews, as well as its enterprise products, will all incorporate Gemini 3. A limited number of subscribers will start the rollout on Tuesday, and in the upcoming weeks, it will expand. Google made the announcement approximately eight months after launching Gemini 2.5 and eleven months after launching Gemini 2.0. GPT-5 was released in August by OpenAI, which launched ChatGPT to the public in late 2022, sparking the generative AI boom.

“It’s amazing to think that in just two years, Al has evolved from simply reading text and images to reading the room,” Pichai wrote in one of Tuesday’s posts.
“Starting today, we’re shipping Gemini at the scale of Google.”
According to the company, AI Overviews has 2 billion monthly users and the Gemini app currently has 650 million monthly active users. In August, OpenAI reported that 700 million people used ChatGPT every week.

Gemini 3 is "much better at figuring out the context and intent behind your request, so you get what you need with less prompting," according to Pichai, who also mentioned that the newest model is "built to grasp depth and nuance." According to the company, simpler tasks may still be handled by Google's other AI models.

Alphabet and its megacap competitors are investing a lot of money to develop the infrastructure for AI and to quickly produce additional services for businesses and consumers. Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon all increased their capital expenditure guidance in their earnings reports last month, and they all anticipate that total will surpass $380 billion this year.
Additionally, Google announced "Google Antigravity," a new agent platform that enables developers to write code "at a higher, task-oriented level." Gemini 3 will initially be accessible to paid subscribers in AI Mode. It will have the ability to evaluate a query and produce a layout using visual components like tables, grids, and pictures. Google said it can make a custom-built interactive loan calculator or an interactive simulation about a complicated physics problem.

Through Vertex AI, a Google Cloud service for creating, implementing, and managing AI models, developers will have access to the Gemini API, and companies will be able to integrate it. According to the company, Gemini 3 can help corporate clients with procurement, more precise video, factory floor image analysis, and employee onboarding and training.
