Tragedy Strikes Hyderabad Family: Father Killed in Riyadh Airport Attack
A Hyderabad IT professional tragically died in a Riyadh airport attack, leaving his sons injured. Discover the heart-wrenching details and the efforts to support the grieving family.
A heart-wrenching incident has left a Hyderabad family in profound grief after 46-year-old Mohammed Yousuf, an IT professional from Mehdipatnam, was killed in an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, recently. His two sons also sustained injuries, with one requiring knee surgery and the other tragically losing three toes.
The family had traveled from Hyderabad to Saudi Arabia about a week prior to perform Umrah, a sacred Islamic pilgrimage. They were reportedly at the airport, waiting to travel to Madinah when the attack occurred on a Saturday.
According to initial reports, Yousuf suffered critical injuries when debris fell on him during the attack.
He sustained severe leg injuries and briefly regained consciousness before a suspected heart attack claimed his life. The exact medical cause of his death, however, awaits official confirmation.
Fortunately, Yousuf's wife and daughter were reported safe, while his aunt, who was also with them, sustained head injuries but is now out of danger.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi confirmed the tragic death on Sunday and quickly reached out for assistance from the Indian Embassy for the grieving family. He has been in contact with Yousuf's brother-in-law in Riyadh and also spoke with the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Indian Embassy, who assured him that the family is being cared for. Owaisi urged External Affairs Minister S.
Jaishankar to ensure all possible assistance is extended to the family, an assurance that was subsequently provided by Jaishankar, promising full support for the repatriation of Yousuf's remains and other necessary help.
Mohammed Yousuf was employed as an IT professional in Riyadh and frequently visited Hyderabad, working remotely during his trips. His elder son was pursuing Hifz, the memorization of the Quran, while his younger son had recently appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). His daughter is a school student, painting a picture of a family with aspirations and a deep connection to their roots.
The broader attack at King Khalid International Airport, attributed by the Saudi-led coalition to Yemen's Houthi movement, resulted in 12 fatalities and 309 injuries, according to Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended to assess damage and ensure safety.
India has strongly condemned the attack, calling for an immediate end to strikes targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
