McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has declared Lando Norris is "driving at the level of a world champion" after the 26-year-old secured a superb victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. This triumph marked back-to-back wins for Norris, who is now looking to ignite his title challenge, despite a significant points deficit to championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
Norris, who had previously clinched his first win of the season in Budapest before the summer break, displayed remarkable skill at Zandvoort. Starting from pole position, he initially lost the lead to Antonelli following a red flag incident caused by Max Verstappen's dramatic crash. Verstappen's race ended early after a first-lap crash on a damp track in front of his home crowd, creating a chaotic turn of events.
Undeterred by the initial setback, Norris stayed in contention, allowing his McLaren team to execute a clever pit strategy. This enabled him to re-engage with Antonelli on fresher tyres, ultimately making a decisive overtake to reclaim the lead and hold it until the chequered flag. Antonelli finished second, with George Russell completing the podium.
Stella specifically highlighted Norris's growing confidence and assertiveness.
"It's almost like I see Lando stronger and stronger race by race," Stella commented. He praised Norris's ability to maximize performance in qualifying and his mastery in challenging, low-grip conditions during the race.
