Bangladesh was rattled again as a series of aftershocks followed a deadly quake near Dhaka, pushing the confirmed death toll to 10 and leaving hundreds injured across Dhaka and surrounding districts.
A 3.3-magnitude tremor struck Narshingdi early in the morning, followed by a 4.3-magnitude shake that hit the capital around 6 p.m. on Saturday. The epicenter for Friday's main quake was in Ashulia, just north of Dhaka.
Eyewitnesses described furniture shaking, cracks appearing in homes, and residents praying for safety. With thousands displaced and buildings damaged, authorities activated the emergency operation centre to coordinate rescue and relief efforts.
Experts noted that Bangladesh's geography makes it highly prone to earthquakes, and officials urged residents to stay alert as aftershocks continue. Relief agencies say structural assessments and aid distribution are ongoing.
Despite the danger, the government said response teams are on the ground and more assistance will be mobilized as aftershocks persist, with a focus on medical aid, shelter, and rebuilding.
